Why this is a CRISIS AVERTED chapter and not a NEGATIVE one: every structural pre-condition for a Ja-Morant-style spiral was present (factional ownership, agent-saturated recruitment, in-season coach firing, dressing-room confusion, public dismissal of the founder's son). The club still found the pivot. The variable is ENV engineering — applied late but applied.

Feb 4, 2026 — Coupe de France elimination at Lorient (0-2)

Knocked out by a Ligue 2 side three weeks after knocking out PSG. Ciro Immobile's debut for Lorient. Internally read as confirmation of momentum collapse.

Feb 14, 2026 — The home humiliation: Paris FC 0-5 Lens

At Stade Jean-Bouin. Lens went top of Ligue 1 with the win. Wesley Said brace, Florian Thauvin penalty, Fofana brace from the bench. Paris FC dropped to 16th in standings. This was the trigger event.

Feb 21, 2026 — Toulouse 1-1 (the last straw)

Feb 22, 2026 — Stéphane Gilli sacked, Antoine Kombouaré announced

Official communiqué Sunday Feb 22. Kombouaré effective from Feb 23 — the 62-year-old former PSG/Nantes/Toulouse/Strasbourg coach, finalised terms without an agent, chose Paris FC over advanced negotiations with Nantes. Will Still (ex-Reims/Lens) was also studied. Antoine Arnault drove the decision after lunch with his brothers and advisers; sounded out Kombouaré via a mutual friend after prior informal contact in January; evening meeting at Arnault's home with CEO Jean-Marc Gallot and sporting director Marco Neppe. Reading: the player tier was actually well-architected for survival. The ENV failure was upstream — ownership and front office. The locker room had three legitimate veteran mentors (Trapp / Traoré / Lees-Melou) before the crisis hit. Kombouaré could land on a culturally stable group; he just had to align it.

Trigger event: Feb 14, 2026 (Lens 0-5 at home)

Public embarrassment in front of new ownership. Dropped to 16th. Antoine Arnault's tolerance for slow boil ended in 90 minutes.

Decision window: Feb 21-22 (Toulouse 1-1 → Sunday lunch → evening meeting → Monday announcement)

Owner-driven, against the president's wish. Pierre Ferracci was informed the day after the decision and asked for Gilli to be given longer — and was overruled. This is the structurally rare event: a founder-class shareholder allows a majority shareholder to override him on a sporting decision without rupture. The ownership table held precisely because the override happened cleanly.

Coach archetype: Kombouaré = fire-fighter, not system builder
